Why You Should Choose A Sustainable Bamboo Toothbrush for Your Dog

Bamboo toothbrushes are quickly growing in popularity and for good reasons. With major concerns about the health of the environment, eco-conscious pet owners are switching to bamboo toothbrushes because they’re a great alternative to plastic toothbrushes.

If you’re searching for ways to create an eco-friendly lifestyle that includes your dog’s dental health, learning about the benefits of a bamboo toothbrush is a great place to begin.

Why Are Bamboo Toothbrushes Considered Eco-Friendly?

You may be wondering why bamboo toothbrushes have become a household staple for people wanting to live an eco-friendly lifestyle.

A typical plastic toothbrush can clog landfills, which is extremely harmful for our planet. Many people are making the switch to bamboo toothbrushes due to the fact that they’re biodegradable. This means that a bamboo toothbrush is able to naturally decompose after it’s been used. So when it’s time to toss away your pet’s bamboo toothbrush, it will break down to its natural elements by microorganisms and blend back into the earth. Our Pure and Natural Pet bamboo brush handles are completely biodegradable and also naturally anti-microbial. They feature an ergonomic handle that is made from a single carved piece of naturally-grown Moso bamboo. These BPA-Free bamboo brushes are assembled in the USA and contain no toxins, glues, or paints.

Bamboo is classified as an evergreen grass species and grows without any chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides. Moso bamboo happens to be the fastest growing plant in the world. It grows at a rapid and impressive speed of 1 meter in 24 hours, providing an endless source of bamboo. The stems are sustainably harvested annually, causing no harm to the mother plant or environment. Since the Moso Bamboo continues to grow after harvesting (unlike most trees), there is no deforestation.

Moso Bamboo forests have many environmental benefits because they absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, control soil conditions, produce organic matter, conserve biological diversity, and contribute to the cleansing and sustainable development of the environment.

This incredible plant species also has a higher tensile strength than steel. The Moso bamboo species in particular is very strong and durable, producing the densest and hardest fibers of any other bamboo species. We selected the Moso bamboo for our pet toothbrushes due to this plants’ many green features, sustainability, and durability. It’s the best eco-friendly alternative that helps to eliminate plastic waste in our world.

How To Recycle A Bamboo Toothbrush

Just like any other toothbrush, a Moso bamboo toothbrush should be replaced every 2-4 months or when the bristles become frayed.

So what should you do when it’s time to recycle your dog’s bamboo brush?

First, you should remove the toothbrush bristles. It’s important to choose a bamboo brush with bristles that can be recycled. For our bamboo brushes, we use dental grade bristles that are made from a recyclable nylon material to effectively remove plaque and tartar from your dog’s  teeth. You can remove the bristles using a set of pliers or tweezers, pulling out small bunches at a time. Make sure to keep the removed bristles together and then place them in a suitable plastic recycling bin.

After you recycle these bristles, throw the handle into your local commercial composter or your own composting pile to decompose naturally. To ensure that your furry friend’s brush doesn’t accidentally get mixed in with other hazardous materials and sit on a landfill, you need to decompose it properly so that it returns back to the earth. You can also bury their toothbrush in your garden or backyard and let it break down naturally.

Another eco-friendly way to dispose of your bamboo brush is to creatively reuse or upcycle the handles for your home. With this option, you don’t need to remove the bristles depending on what you’re reusing it for. Just make sure to properly disinfect the bristles before using it as a cleaning tool, garden marker, or for fun arts & crafts.

We want to continue our sustainability and recycling efforts by focusing on the packaging of our bamboo brush. It’s printed with FSC Certified paper that’s been harvested responsibly and contains a high degree of recycled paper. All ink used on our packaging is soy based and the packaging itself is made from recycled material.

We’re also furthering our eco footprint in ways that benefit the planet by partnering with the 1-Tree Planted program. Pure and Natural Pet is able to plant trees and aid in sustainability endeavors that help the environment.

How Effective Is A Moso Bamboo ToothBrush?

Moso bamboo brushes are just as effective as a regular toothbrush. We designed our bamboo brush to meet the needs of both small and large breed dogs, so it's available in two sizes: small and large. The bristles that we use in our pet bamboo brushes are ergonomic, making brushing your canines teeth much easier. We purposely placed a hump on the brush handle to provide added grip and comfort when brushing your dog’s teeth and gums. Our biodegradable and naturally anti-microbial ergo handle is coated with soybean wax to make the grip for brushing a K9’s canines easier. The natural soybean wax is safe for oral use and makes the brush feel smooth. Soy serves as a natural varnish for a “buttery feel” without toxic chemicals from a traditional varnish. Bamboo is also naturally odor resistant and anti-fungal, so you don’t have to worry about harmful bacteria building up on the bristles.

Selecting the right toothbrush will help make your dog’s dental care routine much easier. For the ultimate healthy at-home routine, you can bring along our Organic Dental Solution Gel to your brushing sessions. Diligently brushing your dog’s teeth and gums can also offset a costly visit to your veterinarian.

A Moso bamboo toothbrush not only benefits your dog’s oral health, but also aids in the health of our environment.

Now you’re fully equipped to care for your pet’s dental hygiene and start an eco-friendly lifestyle!
