The Importance of Ear Care
Can you remember the last time you cleaned your dog’s ears? If you’re having a hard time remembering, you are not alone. Many pet owners tend to forget about their furry friend’s ears when it comes to their at-home grooming routine. Even though ear care often gets overlooked, it is an extremely important part of your dog’s overall health and wellness.
Why Dogs Need Their Ears Cleaned
Your dog’s ears make the perfect breeding ground for various bacteria, yeast, parasites, and foreign bodies that can cause ear infections. One of the reasons our four-legged friends can be prone to ear infections is because their ear canals are shaped like an “L”. The shape by its nature stops dirt, debris, and sometimes bacteria and yeast before it reaches the eardrum, but it also can trap those nasty irritants inside your dog’s ears without regular ear cleanings. The buildup of wax can also occurring your dog’s ear and attract ear mites, which are parasites that feed on ear wax, live in animal’s ear, and can cause unpleasant ear infections. Adding ear care to your pet’s grooming routine is the best way to help ensure healthy ears and keep them safe from infections or other ear issues.
Safely Cleaning Your Dog’s Ears
Dogs are not the biggest fan of getting their ears cleaned, but if you have the opportunity to start them when they are a puppy, you will make it that much easier on yourself in the future. If not, don’t worry you will just need a little time, patience, lots of treats, and healthy ear cleaning products to help make the job that much easier. Regular cleaning with our USDA Certified Organic Canine Ear Cleansing System & NEW Dog Ear Wash are essential in keeping your pup's ears healthy.
Using A Canine Ear Cleansing System:
Our new and improved Canine Ear Cleansing System was designed with your pet in mind. The award-winning kit comes with the following:
- 20 of our Dual-Sided Tips which are made with a medical grade foam that is designed to effectively attract and absorb dirt, oil and grime. The new shape and dual-sided tips allow for exceptional cleaning in tight crevices. They work particularly well for smaller breeds. Our tips are made with eco-friendly ingredients and designed to gently clean your pet’s ears without doing any damage to the inner ear or ear canal.
- Ear Cleansing Serum – Our serum is made with organic oils, like USDA Certified Organic Mullein Oil and Organic Witch Hazel, that naturally clean & disinfect, deodorize and protect against painful ear infections. This serum is free of dyes and perfumes for a natural clean.
To use, just shake well and apply two drops of the serum to the larger side of the tip. Lightly swab around the entire ear without forcing the tip into the canal. Remove excess liquid after swab is removed.
Our eco -friendly tips are also reusable (to reduce waste) - simply rinse with hot water between uses (3-5 uses before disposing). If your pet has an ear infection, please dispose of tip and do not reuse.
Using a Dog Ear Wash
You can also clean and soothe raw, irritated, itchy, greasy and smelly dog ears using our Dog Ear Wash. This new addition to our award-winning pet care line uses unique, and carefully formulated, USDA Certified Organic ingredients like Chamomile Extract to control odor, itching, and discomfort. Our Dog Ear Wash easily removes debris and wax build-up from your dog’s ear for a healthier clean that’s free of chemical or dyes. The formula is alcohol-free and non-stinging.
Remember to reward your dog with a treat during or after the ear cleaning process to help get him/her more comfortable and ease their anxiety.
How Often Should You Clean Your Dog’s Ears
Deciding how often you should clean your dog’s ears depends on a variety of factors including breed, age, coat, and level of activity. For example, dogs with floppy ears are more prone to ear infections than dogs with shorter ears. This is due to moisture building up from the lack of air circulation, which becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast.
Since all our furry friends love fun playtime sessions in the great outdoors, it’s very important to inspect and clean your dog’s ears after they’re rolling around in the grass, woods, mud, or beach sand. Plants, twigs, weeds, and other organic matter can enter your dog’s ears and travel down the ear canal if not removed. If your dog’s ears are not cleaned out on a regular basis, your dog is at risk of developing serious health conditions. Dogs who love to swim frequently should also have their ears checked, dried, and cleaned after each time they go swimming to prevent ear infection.
We recommended cleaning your dog’s ears with our Canine Ear Cleansing System at least once a month and with our Dog Ear Wash at least once a week. If your dog needs frequent cleanings throughout the week, our Ear Wash can also be used daily.
