Spring Is Here… And So Are Fleas, Ticks & Heartworms

April is Heartworm Awareness Month, which makes it the perfect time to check in on your pup’s protection routine.

After a long stretch of cold weather, spring finally feels like a breath of fresh air: longer days, warmer temps, and more time outside with your dog. But with all of that, also comes fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. These pesky little pests are more than an annoyance as they can be dangerous for your dog. Fleas and ticks can carry diseases,
and a single mosquito bite can put your dog at risk for heartworm.

The good news? A few simple habits can go a long way in keeping your pup safe:

A Simple, Natural Way to Help Protect Your Dog

If you’re trying to avoid harsh chemicals, our Flea & Tick Spray is an easy addition to your routine.

It’s made with rosemary, cedarwood, and peppermint, which are all known help naturally repel fleas, ticks, and even mosquitoes. You can use it on your dog, around your home, or anywhere your dog hangs out. Here are a few practical ways to use this or any other natural spray this season:

  • Before heading outside: A light spray on your dog’s coat, especially if you’re going somewhere grassy or wooded
  • On their bed or blankets: Helps keep their favorite resting spots less inviting to pests
  • Around your home: Think entryways, corners, or anywhere your dog spends a lot of time

Don’t Forget About Heartworm

Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance; they can also be dangerous.
Heartworm disease happens when an infected mosquito bites your pet, and unfortunately, it only takes one bite. The worms grow inside the heart and lungs, often without obvious symptoms at first.
When it comes to heartworms, prevention is key.

A few things you can do right now:

  • Talk to your vet about a heartworm prevention plan (this one’s non-negotiable)
  • Get rid of standing water around your home (mosquitoes gravitate towards it)
  • Use a natural repellent to help keep mosquitoes (and other pests) away
